The bridging lore: Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC) was originally founded on May 2, 1670, when it received a royal charter from England's King Charles II. It was established as a fur-trading business with its core operations in Canada, Earth.
For centuries its traders crossed frozen seas, navigated rivers through unmapped wilderness, and bargained with distant peoples for furs, survival, and opportunity while depending on personal grit, diplomacy, and courage.
When humanity eventually left Earth and the ancient empires rose across the cluster of New Eden in EVE Online, most of Earth’s old corporations faded into history. Though the traditions of the fur trade—frontier exploration, resource extraction, and trade logistics—proved timeless
Centuries later, capsuleer historians uncovered fragments of corporate archives describing the Hudson’s Bay traders and their operating philosophy. They recognized something familiar in those ancient practices:
• Trading posts → Space stations and citadels
• Fur brigades → Mining fleets and industrial convoys
• River navigation → Stargate routes and wormholes
• Frontier survival → Life in nullsec and dangerous space
Inspired by these parallels, the spirit of the fur trade has been revived as an interstellar corporation, Hudson's Bay Co-operative. Instead of trapping beaver pelts in frozen forests, we harvest ore from asteroid belts. Instead of wooden canoes, we pilot ships through the cold vacuum.
Where there is wilderness, there is opportunity.
