The year was YC116, and I was at a gathering for capusleers with my corp, when some wiseguy in a suit tells me "The Mittani would like a word with you.", and mind you, I'm like, a NOBODY at the time, working for Sardaukar Merc Guild. The only fun part of that job was annoying the boss who hated my guts, but refused to fire me because my killboard numbers were phenominal.
At the time, there was a guy in SMERG who was CONVINCED I was a CFC spy, so I'm thinking you know? This might actually be kinda funny if word gets out. So, I go with him, meet the man himself, and end up partying with some of his buddies from LAWN.
I wake up the next morning, can't remember half the night, one of the mattresses was torched, and I'm crashed out in the jacuzzi with a handwritten note stuffed in my shirt pocket that says "General Tso's doesn't deserve you. Come somewhere you'll be appreciated".
'Course, I don't say a fuckin word to Burseg. I just set an exit date for myself. The day arrives, and I clean out my office and call the number on the note, and all I said was "I'm in". Arrangements were made in less than an hour, and I head off to the sovereigns.
I'd really like to think that when I left without even saying goodbye, that paranoid jackass was screaming in Burseg's ear "I TOLD YOU JAROD WAS A GOON SPY!"
All in all, I gotta say, that was one of those once-in-a-lifetime deals you'd have to be dumb as a bag of hammers to pass up, and I'm glad I'm... well, I mean, I am pretty dumb, but not THAT dumb.
