The pod cracks open. I collapse forward, lungs flooding the clone bay floor with hydrostatic gel. The pain is brief and what follows is worse.

My body isn’t mine yet. Not until I take it.

I choke, crawl, stabilize. The Neocom pings with fleet intel and my identity confirmed. My last death: registered.

Cold floors. Fluorescent lights. A moment of silence before memory reboots fully.

I’m not the first to die in that capsule, and I won’t be the last. Although I came back.
