In the long run, ideas matter; "movements" don't. The abolitionist movement, for example, existed only because of the IDEA that slavery is inherently immoral. If every member of that "movement" had been arrested or killed, but the IDEA remained, slavery still would have eventually collapsed. Movements and organizations and campaigns--even revolutions--are nothing but SYMPTOMS of a change in the mentality and philosophy of people. Whether particular "movements" succeed or fail, what matters in the long run is how people see the world.
