Thom has always been a traveller. He was born to a single mother, ran away from home in his early teens, after his abusive stepfather tried to beat him. He stowed away on a vessel bound for Luminaire. He tried to fit in with Gallente, even changing his last name to 'Renault'--a Gallente last name, He never did seem to fit into Gallente society, and took up with as a pilot for Mordu's Legion. During his time as a mercenary, he was hired to help put down a slave rebellion on Malma X. Since he had grown up in a family which had been free from slavery for generations, he had never given much thought to Ammar's enslavement of his people. The cruelty and inhumanity which he witnessed, as a battallion of Ammar paladins slaughtered a village of Sebiestor, changed his outlook. He left Mordu's Legion, and returned from his self imposed exile to join the Minmatar Army. His greatest hope is to someday fight for the final freedom of the Matari, scattered across the Ammar empire in slavery.
