A flower in the acid rain.
Its leaves leathery from ruin and pain.
A communtiy of insects inhabits this place.
These swarm to and fro in space.
From the flower to the gaping maw.
It accepts back its young, their skin rubbed raw.
Its stalk is thick, hardy from wind.
Its gifts and love, it won't rescind.
Love so soft, but its protection is much.
It allows a little, so it is not a crutch.
Roots sunk deep within the glassy soil.
Invaders nearby, their blood at a boil.
Her golden cells hold their ground.
This little flower releases a sound.
As she roars deeply, she uncovers her thorns.
They scurry away as she warns.
And even when we are dead and gone.
