The daughter of a family of influential military diplomats, Iona was doomed from birth to spend her life in space, aboard a warship. On her 18th birthday she was kidnapped by pirates for ransom, but an accident prevented the pirates' plans from coming true - on the same day the ship and her family were attacked by wild drones, no one survived.
Later, Iona won a place among the crew of the pirate cruiser. During one of the raids, the ship's crew managed to capture a new Tenga-class ship, and Jonah was the only candidate for command. After surviving the operation to implement the neural interface and being given the ship, not yet fully explored, Jonah broke away from pirate activities and went on a free voyage around the galaxy, "New Eden".
