The truth is, the child should have been dead. The femaie toddler was the sole survivor of an infection that killed every other living animal in the colony. The medical team did a blood study and discovered she, unlike the normal human population, carried no abnormal genetic mutations whatsoever. She was found wandering on the outskirts of the colony wearing a bracelet inscribed, "Lifthrasir", and so the attending physician affixed the Old Norse name, Eir and Lifthrasir to her medical file.
Eir Lifthrasir has never been sick a day in her life. That's not to say she can't be injured, but rather that she "mends" quickly.
As the eldest adopted child by seven years, she was more of an aunt than a sister and spent much of her time caring for the family's "baby girl" At the age of ten her adoptive mother died and Eir assumed the role of family caregiver. As a result, Eir has always been "grown up" and "in charge".
