The problem with a meritocracy is that it tends to forget the litle guy. I'm not talking about the "everbody's special" bullshit that the Federation slings about. I'm talking about that one guy who's good, damned good, but can't ever catch a break. The guy who's a little quicker, a little smarter, than the people around him, but who gets overlooked by the inhabitants of the Ivory Tower. In a sovereignty run by corporations, Callum Gish couldn't find one that suited him. He couldn't find a job he liked, so he does them all.
