A Tale of Mercenaries and Surfing
No one knows how Bof got his first name, but a few tell tales of how he got his surname from a series of amphibious assaults he undertook early in his military career. His comrades all remember Bof emptying a full magazine of plasma into a patch of sand and shout, "If I say it's safe to surf this beach, soldier, it's safe to surf this beach! THIS BEACHHEAD IS OURS!" No one knew exactly what he was going on about, but they never forgot it.
Over the years Bof picked up various spacefaring skills doing odd jobs on any vessel that would have him. There are rumors that he always tosses a handful of sand under his bunk before every voyage, but that could just be sailor talk.
Some say he has a wife someplace, others say he has several wives, and others say euphemistically that he prefers the company of men, but no one really knows the true story of his relationships, if any.
He now roams the stars.
