Rendil is very old and has been using clones since the inception of the technology in New Eden, maybe before that in the old world. He's not sure anymore. He may have come from another dimension entirely and been impersonating a human in this reality for the duration, thanks to the borrowed bodies.
Unfortunately, so many incarnations (most of whom lived to old age and were downloaded into new clones using that questionable early tech) has left him a bit... odd. He now has so many personality disorders that they largely seem to cancel each other out, so that he may appear "normal" at first. It's not a ruse, It's just the law of averages.
Despite these eccentricities, Rendil is steadfast and trustworthy, since he has calculated that reliable, honest behavior is simply the most efficient way to continue existing through history. Why he came out of retirement to join the capsuleer corps again is unknown, perhaps even to him.
