Ashton Whithers

I met Ashton at a bar in the Pator system. The first glance spoke of a soft character, for a Vherokior, and a slight bewilderment, whether from drink, or an environment to which he was ill suited.

It was clear that here was a pilot who had been in space, alone, for so long, with only the comfort of his own voice, that now the voices of others seemed a cacophony of whispers. He could hear them, but sat uncomprehending, staring into his drink, as though the words of those around him were somehow muffled by the noise within.

The second glance was returned, with a stare, cold, calculating, and uncaring. The eyes spoke of intellect and drive not quite controlable, of a person so deeply enmeshed in his own designs that he has withdrawn from society to the point of reclusion.

I was drawn to his table, as if by a spell. "Sit," he said. "Have a drink, and let me tell you what I dream."
