You grow from protein combinations that consume molecules in longer and longer sequences, and the complexity of this reaction increases over time as the proteins that can consume molecules and successfully continue their chemical reaction actually multiply, while those that fail at it, or consume all of the available molecules around them, "die" (maybe other organisms can consume their remains). This chemical reaction called "life" uncovers more and more viable combinations of organisms and micro-organisms over thousands of generations of their lifelong reactions.

We are the ships of many feeding reactions, guided by their needs and wants. Our minds interpret their signals as pain, hunger, thirst, etc. These feelings are the yoke by which they control their host. The lower and higher concepts of our intellect are a very useful byproduct of this reaction that greatly help to maintain and continue our reaction.
