In Greek Mythology:
Erebus (or Erebos): Deep Darkness or shadow, often conceived as a primordial deity, representing the personification of darkness, is said to have fathered several other deities by Nyx, Thanatos being among them.

Nyx (or Nox): Goddess or personification of the night, shadowy figure from at or near the begining of creation, a figure of exceptional power and beauty found in the shadows of the world and only ever seen in glimpses.

Thanatos: To Die; Be dying. Daemon personification of death.
