Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of gravity
And danced the depths on laughter-silvered wings;
Spaceward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling depravity
Of star-split clouds, — and done a hundred-thousand things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring slight and stark,
I've chased the solar wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of light and dark. . . .
Jump, jump the long, delirious burning plane of infinity
I've topped the bare-swept heights with easy grace
Where never creature, or ever man attained the same vicinity —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of empty space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
