Tatty Devine (Originally Tatayana Devanski) was born in Caldari Prime in Y91 and grew up under the rule of the State Protectorate. Her parents, ardent Intaki patriots, died when she was a child, following their exile for anti-Caldari activities and she came under the protection of her traditionalist uncle, Josef Kramarz, who watched over her for the next fifteen years.

In Y108 Kramarz conceded to his niece's passionate desire to navigate the universe, and Devine traveled to Derririntel, where she served shuttling trade between planets and custom offices before joining an Ishukone ship as an apprentice. In Y111 she regained Caldari nationality and graduated from the State War Academy.
