The Pensacola Colony happened to be founded in 1559 by Don Tristan de Luna y Arellano. However the colony did not last becouse of Hurricane Season. Tristan de Luna had a mental break down and the people of the colony went back home. St. Augustine became the first city in North America in 1565 and not Pensacola.
Penasacola became settle in 1696 but the French were able to capture Pensacola in 1719 and hold it until 1722. The Spanish were able to gather a sizable military force and take back Pensacola.
But by 1760 or so the British took control of Florida. The British gained the Florida colony due to the fact the Spainish fought along side with the French in the French and Indain War. For being part of the losing team the Spainish Empire had to give Florida up to the British. The British brought many changes to Pensacola and to Florida in general.
The changes brought by the British is that they spilt Florida up into sections, East and West Florida.
