In this vast universe being a jerk is a simple thing to achieve, most people you meet think it will bring them respect, wealth, attention or most important to them control over others.. they have and will develop special terminology (like carebears, losers etc) to describe those who are not like them to put distance and imply a unique set of acceptable behavior in their eyes..
