Originally the household guard of the Duchy of Lyace on Luminaire VI (Gallente Prime), the Lancers, as they are commonly called, now function in much the same manner as any other unit dedicated to the Federal Defense Union.

Nominally, the Lancers maintain the traditions and heraldry from their past service and are still considered the Duke's personal military, and the Duchy in turn provides a significant portion of the operational income for the unit.
