Shortly after the Valklear initiative started during the Great war for Liberation, a similar program was created to provide the Valklears with weapons and other equipment they might need. Not all Valklear recruiters looked for combat potential as VMAF industrialists were discovered in the same maximum security prisons and labour camps as everyone else. Some recruiters would look for uniquely innovative minds that would be best served in Military R&D, developing the savage weaponry that Valklear combat units used to great effect in the war.
Just like their combat oriented brethren, the VMAF was exceptionally successful and was similarly kept alive for that reason after the new Republic wanted to disband it once the war was over. It has operated in the shadows since then, quietly supplying Minmatar warriors with high quality weapons and ships, until the beginning of YC126 when top leadership decided it should openly support their brothers in the fight against the Amarr opressors and any other that would dare attack the Republic.
