ARBITRAGE

We actively seek price descrepencies in various items at distant locations. By purchasing these items where the price is low and then transporting them to where the price is high, we can easily generate income at a rate only limited by our cash on hand and the number of couriers running each route. It is easily possible for a single transport to generate hundreds of millions of ISK per day. Multiply that by the number of couriers we have running on any day and the results are quite impressive. This activity is the most reliable source of income for Pedel Financial at the moment. However, we expect derivatives trading to become our primary source of income in the near future... once word spreads.

DERIVATIVES

The world of derivatives trading is steeped in mystery for most casual observers. To many, derivatives seem so complicated that to deal with them seems a daunting task. However, derivatives make up the vast majority of financial activity in the real world. There is a reason for this... derivatives allow you to hedge risk and speculate on market activity. Understanding derivatives allows the business or individual that utilizes them to create a much more solid and profitable basis to operate from, regardless of what activities that business is generally involved in. Even PvP corporations can benefit from the use of options, forwards, swaps and even more exotic derivatives such as 'swaptions'.

Derivatives can be boiled down to this: a derivative is any financial instrument based upon other values, whether they be the price of tea in China or some index that is tracked, such as the DJIA (Dow Jones Industrial Average). Derivatives can even be based on more obscure things, such as the temperature at some location at some time. This allows traders to bet on things like weather patterns (this is actually done in reality believe it or not, and is often used to help predict the course of Hurricanes and the chance of drought pretty far into the future).

However, EVE, as much as we get sucked into it, is not reality (a hard pill to swallow I know, but it's the truth). So derivatives in EVE will be based on variables in the EVE universe, such as the current and future price of various tradeable items. However, we are willing to offer more exotic derivatives, allowing you to speculate on things such as the number of kills in a particular system at a certain date.

I should note that in reality, I (the founder and CEO of this corporation) am in reality a trader of currencies, and 50% owner, director and founder of an actual proprietary hedge fund... managing large sums of money for our investors. I design automated systems to trade the markets. In other words, I know this business inside and out.
