The Caldari Naval Special Tasks Group (STG) is a division of the Caldari Office of Naval Intelligence. Although, despite being under the jurisdiction of the Navy, ONI and STG appear to report directly to the State.

ONI is responsible for intelligence, reconnaissance, counter-espionage, and propoganda matters across all of New Eden. As such, ONI employs members of other military branches, and even civilians, to complete their shadowy work.

Many of its functions and subdivisions, like the STG, are enigmatic, and its personnel are regarded as mysteries by mainstream naval officers. STG personnel, especially officers, are often referred to as "ghosts or spooks".

Operators appear to enjoy significant latitude in the discharge of their duties, often violating moral boundaries or acquiring vast amounts of Caldari resources to achieve their ends. STG operators work in independent cells, performing dangerous missions such as counterterrorism, infiltration, reconnaissance, assassination, and sabotage. Where the Navy is the hammer, STG acts as the scalpel.
