Lightning Strike Rescue was formed by the Gallente Navy during the Gallente-Caldari war in 23155AD to conduct salvage and rescue missions within deep space territories. For decades Lightning Strike Rescue served this purpose and gained status for rescuing many high ranking Gallente officials during the devastating battles between the two navies.

In 23212AD the whole Lightning Strike fleet was dispatched to interstellar space on a top secret mission, rumoredly involving a distress signal from prototype Roden vessels, lightyears astray from their intended testing zone. Last communication from Lightning Strike was received when the fleet reported they had located the floating Roden vessels and were intiating salvage and rescue operation. Despite many attempts another contact was never established, and the location was deemed too unstable for another mission. Lightning Strike Rescue pilots were regarded as heroes lost in space and then forgotten for over a hundred years.

Recently reports have emerged of ships bearing faded Lightning Strike insignias appearing in the outern colonies of occupied space. Although the vessels appear to be moving, they do not react to any communication attempts. Unconfirmed reports of erratic and aggressive behaviour by the darkened Lightning Strike ships have been recorded. A Black Rise mining colony operator claimed Lightning Strike ships had ambushed and dismantled a full wing of Hulk-exhumers for salvage. His report was disregarded as hallucination due to very high X-Instinct concentration found in the blood stream.

Gallente Navy advocates high caution if encountering Lightning Strike Rescue ships until these incidents are thoroughly investigated.
