Undermidnight, whose real name is Xavier Thalan, is the son of Marilyn Seinna and Joseph Thalan. His father was a transport pilot for the Gallente Merchant Marines and his mother was a well known engineer specializing in Warp mechanisms.

Xavier wanted to follow his dream of Astronomy, learning as much as he could about the star systems in Eve, but when he was in his 20s, his mother was killed during a test run with a new warp drive that she designed. Xavier's father retreated to a desolate but mineral rich world to try to forget the loss of his wife and started a career in mining and trade. Xavier followed in his father's footsteps specializing in mining.

He still pursues his interest in astronomy by exploring the various systems of Eve.
