They were bereft, all those who remained. Those who still had strength grasped at the sky, wanting to pull the very stars down with their anguish. Others, whose grief was so incalculable, left their listless limbs sprawled amongst the dirt and stones. It was all over for them. The decades of struggle; the vain hope for victory was torn from them in a flash. And that which replaced them, in fire and deceit, was unparralleled woe. The stories they would tell their progeny would not end with glory. Their tales would dangle fruitlessly without closure. No answers. No vengeance. Only emptiness. Their hollow souls would walk out their days, and their gazes would be ever turned to the heavens, fearful of the return. Their wars would be waged amongst themselves, for there was no one else left to fight.
He tried to teach us these things. That death was absolute and unbiased. That life was wasted on hatred and misplaced sentiments of deserved respect.
