Loung Kosaran is the son of the famous politician Chancellor Sun Wen Kosaran and currently banned from the family's home planet for being one of the leading figures in an failed attempt of coup d'etat against his father. Since the operation consisted mostly of cyber-attacks and sabotage, his role in the attempts of revolution never became public.

Loung flew and in lack of the skill to fly a spaceship, was at first travelling anonymously amongst the stowaways on a nomad tribe ship. "The Shipdwellers" as they called themselves. for they had converted cargo haulers into habitable travelling stations, living all their lifes on them, were a quite sociable folk and not especially fierceful against their uninvited guests. Loung quickly gained the trust of some of the habitants and soon became aquainted with a man named Karul Lokram, a retired pilot, who taught Loung the maneuvering of spacecrafts. He departed when the ship was taken by pirates and Karul died in battle defending it.
