For every scammer you see in local there are 5 solos wishing they could trust someone enough to go ratting with them, or an industrialist that wants to trade gear for escorts to low sec, etc.
Just because the buzz about the trade hub is that everyone sucks, don't buy it. They want you to trust no one. They want you to play alone. They want you to be a target with no friends to call when they have you pinned. They are the few.
Join a corporation.
Join an excursion.
Ask in local if anyone wants to go do some ratting.
The worst that will happen is you will lose a ship and some loot, and in the end its all just spacebucks.
