A member of the Intaki caste known as the 'Reborn', The Doctor is a bit of an anomaly. The Doctor's true identity is unknown even to him, a situation created by a poorly understood malfunction in the cloning process and an administrative error in the same facility.

Basically, the owner of the clone was lost and a new person was born. The Doctor earned his current moniker by virtue of his uncanny ability with all things technical.
