Shortly after the tube baby era ended there was still demand for production from black market buyers.  In a remote laboratory a non-certified engineer continued to produce the tube children. Thus began the unfortunate life of specimen DVA-09386. 

When a potential buyer turned out to be an undercover CONCORD agent things went south for the engineer and his lab. Specimen DVA-09386 was mature enough and lucid enough to make an escape during the ensuing raid and headed for the stars to make his own way. To remind himslef of his humble beginnings DVA-09386 gave himself a name with the initials of his specimen code, DVA... Duke VonAwesome.
