Ren Merser is the third son of Admiral Grant Merser, the Martyr of Maurasi. The Merser family has had a complicated relationship with the Federation since the death of the Admiral. A widley-circulated conspiracy theory claims that the Federation government knew about and perhaps even orchestrated the Caldari ambush that resulted in the Admiral's death in an attempt to reduce the political influence of the military arm of the Federation. While the Merser family has never publicy expressed belief in the conspiracy, their loyalty to the current administration remains in question, eclipsed only by their fierce hated of the Caldari.
Unlike his older brothers, Ren Merser has largely avoided the political and military spotlight, choosing instead to fly independent of the family corporation. This has left MerserCorp unaffiliated with Ren's suspected black market and pirate ties. It is widely believed that, of the three sons of Admiral Merser, Ren is the one actively seeking revenge.
