Dersen grew up the latest in a family of fervent democrats who could trace their active and often controversial support for decentralized, representative government generations back into the old empire. He has taken up the family mantle enthusiastically, believing that the best way to ensure democracy is to practice it, and the next best way is to defend it. He enlisted proudly in the Federation Navy, with the the full support of his parents. Then he saw things from the inside.

His ideals have not changed, but his faith in the Gallente Republic generally, and in the Roden administration particularly, have been shaken to the core.
