There is this place, maybe you have been there. The sign at the diner swings in the wind, its light flickering in the night. That and a few scattered buildings battered by sand and dust.
Hopefully my real home was nothing like that; my parents would never talk about home. Only that we landed here when I was a baby. Us and a few others, one big happy family. If that place knew the meaning of the word 'happy'.
I spent my younger years hiding from the scorching heat, which meant staying under ground. Staying underground led to mining, mining led to a job. A job was my ticket out of that place.
Your own ship makes it easy to hide from the heat. Parked on some asteroid on the fringe of the galaxy collecting rock. Easy if you don't give a damn.
Unfortunately I did.
