Rather than follow his father into the small family shipping business, Scion joined the Federation Navel Academy. A perverse youth, he always preferred targeting algorithms to proper business theory. He had never devoted himself to serious and demanding study, and after barely surviving the pod pilot process and specialized soldier training, he was rejected for a billet in the Federation Navy. He joined the thousands of others scraping a living off of the space lanes, working as a privateer in the service of his country and anyone else in need of a fast turret and an unmarked ship, and subject only to the whims of Fortune and Concord.

Years later, after a few too many fights on the outer rims of nothing systems, after the fifth lost ship and the second lost body, Scion retired from the hitman trade. Returning to his roots in his home system, he started a profitable business, flying into dangerous territory and returning with goods to sell to the lazy and impatient masses.
