They wanted to keep us contained, under their control. They tried to keep us blinded to the truth; keeping us from seeing what we truly are now.

We have not been along for long, but already our power is that it rivals the empires. Our pilots laugh in the face of their police forces as they launch attacks on each other for fun. Our industrialists amass wealth that individually can control a regions market; collectively the wealth of our empires are the market that drives the universe. Our warriors are immortals who no longer have to fear death; they amass armories and fleets that the empires fear.

We are immortals. We are gods of the stars. The empires know this and know the power we possess. They fear us, fear what we might become, and what we might do to them.

Now they want to be pets, to stay within their bounds. But we are gods and must do what gods must. We shall expand and grow, We will define the bounds of the universe and they cannot stop us. They will not stop us.
