Every differentiable symmetry of the action of a physical system has a corresponding conservation law. All fine technical points aside, if a system hasa continous symmetry property, then there are corresponding quantities whose values are conservedin time. One can assume that the Lagrangian is invariant under small perturbations (warpings) of the time variable under generalized coordinates.
As an illustraiton, if a physical system behaves the same regardless of how it is oriented in space, its Lagrangian is symmetric under continous rotations. From this simmetry, the action of a physical system is the integral over time of a Lagrangian function (which may be an integral over space of a Lagrangian density function), from which the system's behavior can be determined by the principle of least action. As another example, if a physical process exhibits the same outcomes regardless of place or time, then its Lagrangian is symmetric under continous translations in space and time respectively; these symmetries account for the conservation of linear momentum and energy within this system, respectively.
