If you have a steam account, when you go to log onto the eve website, at the bottom of the log in box there is a button to "log in with steam" you have to use that to link the accounts. Steam creates a new user name for you, if you look at your launcher it will show your username as Steam: 13564 or the like and eve.com won't know who you are without using that little "log in with Steam" button.
