I grew up watching Midwest Vans Calumet chapter and Oak ****in' Lawn Chapter (The original 2%) You answered better than they do.
I agree wholeheartedly that the 2% thing needs to be told but not re-lived. Times and events were different. People tend to hang on to what is comfortable or familiar. Without naming names, I have to spend time around a Vanner who belives that Vanning started and will end in a Van of his choice. Unfortunately he has never had a Van (in the past 25 years)that was worth more that the contents of his fuel tank. He regularly preaches about how things used to be. I was recently watching some old home movies with a former Vanner/neighbor. I saw this Vanner in 1976 preaching the same crap about how it was better in the past and how things changed. This person may have been lumped into the 2% category by association but never took on the spirit that 2% offered after that time. It realy did unify those who were upset and wanting a different kind of Vanning. It gave some Vanners an Icon to hold on to that was maybe the only thing they believed in at the time.
Well times change, People Change, and the Vans certanly did. So the 2% icon has become just that, an Icon for those of us who identify ourselves with where Vanning has been and hoping for a good direction in the future.
