Nova Rif, commonly known as "the Rift" or "Nova" for short, was a human male Amarian who worked as a bounty hunter during the New World Era. With his Amarian armor ship and distinctive warp drones, Nova was both well-equipped and enigmatic—a stranger whose past was shrouded in mystery to others. Orphaned and raised in the old ways, he was trained to become a hunter-warrior and eventually joined the Pit, who operated on Solitude. Nova became battle-hardened, a man of few words, and a formidable hunter in an increasingly dangerous galaxy.

After the fall of the old world, Nova made a reputation for himself as a member of The Watch, collecting bounties as he traveled across the galaxy's Outer Rim Territories—far from the authority of new Eden. It was around that time when Nova was hired on the Amarr homeworlds by a client of an Imperial Navy faction, who offered a substantial reward for the acquisition of an asset located in Y9G-KS, the gateway to Null-Sec. During his mission in Y9G-KS, he met a corpo recruiter calling himself Malynx Halfman, who guided him to the location of the asset and then later recruited Nova into his guild, his brotherhood, his death and new life into Apex Collective.
