Born on the backwater planet Deepari IV to the devout Pares family, the third daughter, Callas, was destined for a military vocation, for economic reasons, if nothing else.

During her studies, she developed an interest in both Geology and Astronomy, which blossomed into a passion for Astrometrics and Astrogation, but she became thoroughly disenchanted with warfare during her studies at the Imperial Academy.

While her marks in technical courses were generally good, her lack of enthusiasm for the traditional military curriculum severely limited her propsects, and she was eventually granted a dubious honor: an adjunct, non-commisioned position in the exploratory engineering division (EED). Seen as one of the least prestigious posts, this would have been considered a failure by anyone else, but perhaps Callas can find a way to come to terms with herself at last.
