Mineva Lao Zabi is the sole surviving direct descendant of the Zabi family by the time of U.C. 0096. From a story telling perspective, she had the incredible experience of witnessing, from her position as of prominate authority, a proud facist nation brought to humility. When she was very young, she was manipulated by her advisors whilst blinded by her medieval aristocratic environmnet. Being a Newtype, her illusions were shattered by a moment of understanding between herself and Casval/Char who was a perceptive and understanding individual for the most part, and had expereinced the world.

She appears in Mobile Suit Gundam: Universal Century, often referred to as MSG Unicorn, and meets the main character Banagher Links. Her purpose is to avert the renewing conflict between the Earth Federation and Neo Zeon, and end the fighting that has launguished on and off for 16 years taking over a billion lives. After kickstarting the plot, she lingers about here and there, Banagher rescues her once or twice, but she doesn't do much else aside from a little character development.

Meanwhile, the animation is beautiful and there are several wholesome interactions between the characters that make the series much more than a mindless shoot-em-up. You have a girl motivated by revenge, a grieving father struggling to protect his surrogate daughter, a Char knockoff that somehow actually gets away with being a knockoff, and a survivor of a horrendous science project and horrid abandonment.

Then we get to the end of the story. The Fedis and the Sleeves are fighting in a gloriously animated battle using a collage of new and interesting mobile suits. Banagher is a third agency, trying, but failing, to end the fighting using, of all things, a machine made for fighting and find the mcguffin that will grant his wish. There's a powerful Nihilist, time travel, awesome music, resolved character arcs, but what happens to Mineva?

Does she use the mcguffin with Banagher's aid to change Neo Zeon and find a solution that doesn't invovle war or mass murder? The fighting does stop. Does she end the facist culture of Zeon? She could have at least tried. Did she at some point decide to follow in her family's footsteps and try to take the mcguffin for that end? She did do some cosplay with her Zeon garb. Did she give up? Nope.

She became a waifu. End of story.
