Bio
Picking fights wisely is an important skill in EVE, as it can mean the difference between victory and defeat.
*Know your ship’s strengths and weaknesses. Different ships have different roles and capabilities, and you should be aware of what your ship can and cannot do. For example, if you are flying a blaster brawler, you want to get close and personal with your enemy, but avoid being kited or neuted. If you are flying a sniper, you want to keep your distance and avoid being tackled or jammed.
*Know your opponent’s ship and potential fit. You can use tools such as zKillboard or Pyfa to look up common or recent fits for different ships, and get an idea of what they can do. You can also use the Show Info window in-game to see the ship’s bonuses and attributes. For example, if you see a Rifter, you can assume it is a fast and agile frigate that uses projectiles and drones for damage, and can fit either an armor or a shield tank.
*Know your location and surroundings. Different areas of space have different rules and risks. For example, in high security space, you can only attack players who are at war with you or have low security status, otherwise you will be attacked by CONCORD. In low security space, you can attack anyone, but you will lose security status and be attacked by gate or station guns if they are nearby. In null security space or wormhole space, there are no rules or restrictions, but there may be bubbles or cloaked enemies waiting for you.
*Know your allies and enemies. EVE Online is a social game, and having friends or enemies can make a big difference in a fight. You should always communicate with your fleetmates and follow the orders of your fleet commander if you are in a fleet. You should also be aware of who are your friends or foes in the area, and whether they will help you or hinder you in a fight.
*Know your goals and objectives. Different fights have different purposes and outcomes. For example, if you are defending a structure or a territory, you may want to fight until the end or until the objective is secured. If you are roaming for fun or hunting for targets, you may want to avoid fights that are too risky or too boring. If you are doing a mission or a site, you may want to finish it quickly or loot the wrecks.
