Nortalia Stormwalker appears to hail from the Gallente Federation - and certainly displays the cultural disposition of the Gallente - but is in fact from the House of Stormwalker, an Achuran (and therefore Caldari) family line. She studied industrial engineering at the University of Caille but was expelled for alleged activism. She fled Gallente space and returned to the Caldari State to seek help from her relatives, and eventually set up a privateer company with her lover Talonix Idarra.

The House of Stormwalker was originally a local Achuran noble family on Saisio III, also known as Achura (internal house documents attest to an origin that far predates the terraforming of Caldari Prime and indeed stretches back to Earth, before the colonization of New Eden enabled by the EVE wormhole). Among the Achurans, the Stormwalkers are a little less reclusive and more open-minded/objective than their fellow Achurans, which has manifested in a greater willingness to relocate and become established in various sectors outside of their home system.

After the Achuran integration into the Caldari State and society, the Stormwalkers made a name for themselves as small-scale industrialists and mercenaries. Some served in the State military services, but a majority of those who pursued a military career chose to serve in the security forces of one of the major Caldari corporations. Some have even found employment in other empires, notably among Gallente corporations.
