Hobbes grew up like so many others, bouncing from station to station. Life has been cold and filled with long work hours and little to stem the tide of monotony. Then one day an agent approached him with an opportunity to get off the docks. "Take this ship and head out to mine some ore. While there you will be attacked. If you can survive and bring back the pilots alive you can keep all the ore you mine and the ship." Skeptical he accepts the task. Against all odds he survives the encounter as his foe crashed into some astroid debris and tore the hull of their ship.

The odds were more than stacked against him but when he docked back at the station the agent was waiting for them. The prisoner was quickly and quietly lead away to be lost among the cables and pipes of that station to be jettisoned like month old garbage. Hobbes was able to sell the ore and repair the junker he was given with enough left over to add on a better mining laser and gatling cannon.
