Washizuka's father left the family when he was a mere child. Not much was remembered about him, other than he was not Jin-Mei and that he certainly did not bring the family back to where he came from. Washizuka's mother did not tell him much about his father either. In fact, she refused to talk about him, There was never even a hint in her eyes why this was so. No hint of sadness, or disappointment, or shame.... nothing. The only thing Washizuka would ever knew was the surname of Keiijiro was definitely not from his mother. She was to pass away when Washizuka barely reached his teens.

It was not that the Jin-Mei readily accepted a child of such mixed parentage. Fortunately, Washizuka's maternal family belonged to the respectably high rank of the Saan Go caste. Still, one does not usually follow the caste of one's mother, so Washizuka belonged no where.

The Jin-Mei may have fed him and educated him, but they never really accepted him.
