Shinji Seto glanced at the holographic display inside his modest quarters aboard the Rust Runner, a Hurricane-class battlecruiser docked at a Minmatar Station. The station hummed gently around him, a soothing, constant pulse that he'd grown to rely upon. Born of the Vherokior tribe, Shinji had inherited the sharp wits and keen intuition common to his people, coupled with a quiet intensity that others often found disconcerting.

The dim lights flickered softly, a comforting reminder of the patched and repurposed systems typical of Minmatar engineering. Shinji stared at the star map floating before him, the sprawling clusters of systems and stars twinkling in serene ignorance of the chaos humanity brought to their endless expanse.

"Captain Seto," the intercom crackled, interrupting his contemplation. "Your crew is aboard, and repairs are complete. You're cleared for undock whenever you're ready."

"Acknowledged," Shinji replied evenly, running his fingers over the smooth contours of his implant interface. He’d grown accustomed to the subtle tingling as the implants connected, pulling him momentarily from his physical form into the vast, cold embrace of the ship’s systems. Becoming one with his ship had once terrified him; now, it was his refuge.

Minutes later, the Rust Runner emerged gracefully from the dock, maneuvering through space traffic as effortlessly as a seabird gliding over waves. As the ship slipped past the station’s gravitational pull, Shinji relaxed, allowing the familiar sensations of space to envelop his consciousness. Isendeldik, a seemingly insignificant backwater, had become his sanctuary. Its quiet belts and sparsely trafficked gates offered respite from the relentless demands of capsuleer life.

But peace was a rare commodity in New Eden. As Shinji eased the Rust Runner into a warp vector towards a nearby asteroid belt, alarms shattered his tranquility. The sensor array blazed red as a trio of unidentified cruisers emerged from cloak directly ahead, bearing the markings of Angel Cartel raiders.

"Of course," Shinji muttered wryly, more resigned than surprised. He quickly assessed his options. Fight or flight—an eternal Minmatar dilemma, now played out on a cosmic scale.

“Load barrage ammunition, activate defensive modules,” he ordered calmly. His crew responded swiftly, their loyalty unwavering.
