2. An old danish maiden name. :)
ad 1) In chemistry, paraffin is a term that can be used synonymously with "alkane", indicating hydrocarbons with the general formula CnH2n+2.The name is derived from Latin parum ("barely") + affinis, meaning "lacking affinity" or "lacking reactivity" indicating paraffin's unreactive nature.
ad 2) Petroline could be derived from Peter, and Petroline would then be the female form. Line is a normal danish maiden name, and unlike Petroline, in use today. A great grandmother was called Petroline, here in Denmark.
