. . . . Mogh, was killed and wrongly dishonored on the Klingon world Khitomer when his son Worf was a young child in 2346 when a Romulan raid killed the nearly entire population. Mogh was accused of calling the Romulans there, however it was another Klingon named Duras. Worf was taken as an orphan by a Starfleet crewmember, Sergey Rozhenko. . . . Eventually Worf entered Starfleet Academy and eventually became an officer on the USS Enterprise-D in 2364.
His brother, Kurn, was adopted by a Klingon family and has become a Commander in the Klingon Empire. In 2366 he pays a visit to the Enterprise and tells Worf of his heritage and the treachery of the Duras Family to shame their father. Worf tries, as the eldest, to change this history but when he learns of the nature of things accepts Discommendation which is a harsh Klingon custom and policy of accepting ones family dishonor. . . .
