Jeanbert Amadeus Walmstein began his career as a successful researcher into mathematical models of societies, specialising in Ethical Calculus, at the University Of Caille Schools in Bourynes. After 10 years of research and teaching he began to feel increasingly jaded with the detached study of ethics and sought for a way to be more proactive in his pursuit of a more perfect society. On leaving the University he was quickly influenced by T Dave's anti-slavery propaganda and eventually managed a meeting with the notorious campaigner. Soon afterwards, having been convinced of the cause, Walmstein joined the United Front Against Slavery where he endeavoured through increasingly unorthodox and means to achieve a fairer world by freeing captured slaves.

However, UFAS was not the success it initially looked like being. Recruitment dwindled off and the organisation struggled to make a major impact. The inexperienced pilots of UFAS were no match for the Amarrian
